There are several Rotary Clubs in RID 3281, Bangladesh and as more people are being charmed by the wonders and magic of the internationally reputed humanitarian service-oriented organization called Rotary. The need for new clubs is always felt. Baridhara and its surrounding areas, such as Banani, Gulshan, and Basundhara, are a prime locality as they encompass the entire Diplomatic zone and the offices and residences of eminent and distinguished citizens of the country. So people of this area felt the need for a new club. Under the leadership of the then District Governor Rtn. Salim Reza, along with some veteran Rotarians from other clubs and a new member from the locality, formed the Rotary Club of Baridhara. The club received its charter from Rotary International on February 22, 2006, and began its journey.

Chartered certificate handover

The charter was formally handed over at a gorgeous ceremony at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel (now known as Ruposhi Bangla) on 29 May 2006 by the then District Governor.

Baridhara is a Bangla word meaning continuous downpour of water. One reason for the area being named Baridhara may be that the adjoining areas are Banani [green woods], Gulshan [garden], and Basundhara [earth], none of which can survive without WATER. So we would like to think that BARIDHARA remains a source of life and prosperity for everyone around. In keeping with the name of the club, our bulletin is called RANGDHANU [rainbow], which appears after a heavy rain as a symbol of new color, light and hope for humanity. We hope that, likewise, “RANGDHANU” will also spread color and hope in the lives of all, especially the destitute and the deprived. During the just concluded Rotary Year 2015-2016, Rtn, PDG M. Ali Mahbub AKS became the first member of the Arch Klump Society (AKS) in RID 3281, Bangladesh. He also shared TRF points with his fellow Rotarians of RC Baridhara, and thus the club became a 100% PHF Club.
